Upsell

A marketing technique that encourages customers to choose a superior, more expensive or enhanced version of a product or service they are considering.

This strategy maximizes the value generated per transaction by highlighting premium options, advanced features or relevant additional services. In this way, upselling increases average revenue per purchase, while responding more precisely to users' expectations, boosting their overall satisfaction.

Examples of recommendation algorithms: "You'll like it too", "Similar products", "Upmarket".

Not to be confused with cross-sell, which consists in offering products or services that are complementary or related to the product initially chosen by the customer, with the aim of increasing the total value of the basket.

Examples of recommendation algorithms: "Often bought together", "Complete your purchase", "Our customers also buy". (Ex: suggest a shell after purchasing a smartphone).
